Our Breast Awareness Program

Promoting breast awareness

Bosom Buddies Breast Awareness Shower Tag

Bosom Buddies volunteers raise awareness of breast cancer in the community through our Breast Awareness Program. This program includes presentations to older students, any local business, corporate or government organisation or social or sporting group.

The program stresses the importance of self-awareness and early detection. Presenters also suggest ways to support a friend, relative or workmate during their breast cancer journey.

We also are the only organisation that produces the ‘It’s never to early to check for cancer’ shower tag. This tag promotes regular checking for early detection. We distribute about 10,000 of these tags each years

  • through our Breast Awareness Program.
  • during any information sessions and to women who come to our information booths and fundraising stalls.
  • by providing these tags to BreastScreen ACT and ACT Women’s Health Centre and to other health centres and health professionals for distribution to women in the community.

As the production of these tags is substantial – Bosom Buddies seeks corporate sponsorship to cover the high cost of production.

Do you want to have a presentation?

It is never too early to be breast aware. Although the main risk age group for breast cancer is between the ages of 50 and 70, an increasing number of younger women are being diagnosed. It is never too early to be breast aware.

Since 1999, Bosom Buddies has given presentations to high school students as well as to community, government and business groups. Presentations have been made to many Clubs, Sporting Clubs, women’s groups from a non-English speaking background, Breastfeeding Groups, and Federal Government Departments, including staff at Parliament House, the ACT Legislative Assembly, private firms and a foreign embassy.

Presentations are given by two of our trained volunteers.
