Our Patron – Annette Ellis

Annette EllisAnnette Ellis is one of our key supporters, she is devoted to helping wherever she can our organisation and others in the local community. Annette Ellis is the former Member for Canberra in the Federal Parliament where she served for fourteen years, and a former member of the ACT Legislative Assembly.

Annette is patron of Bosom Buddies ACT, and for the Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group, the ACT Down Syndrome Association, and Arthritis ACT. Annette also serves on boards of several community organisations, and in January 2011 was appointed to the University of Canberra Council.

Gai Brodtmann

Gai is the current Federal Member for Canberra. Since her election Gai has demonstrated her total commitment to this community and its organisations in many ways, including making a statement in the House on her involvement with Bosom Buddies as well as participating in many Bosom Buddies activities. Previously, Gai worked in Foreign Affairs and Trade, ran a consultancy, and tutored at the University of Canberra. Gai’s active community work includes being a director of the Gift of Life and Wellness Board, and has actively worked for improved health services in the ACT.

Jeremy Hanson

Jeremy Hanson is the ACT Shadow Minister for Health. and the Legislative Assembly Member representing Molonglo since 2008. Prior to joining the Assembly, Jeremy was a decorated member of Australian Army having spent twenty two years serving in many different roles and locations, both within Australia and overseas.

Active in our community, Jeremy is a Heart Foundation Ambassador, a Legatee, a Rotarian, and a member of the RSL. As ACT Shadow Health Minister, Jeremy has shown active interest in the work of Bosom Buddies ACT and has filed a commendation of our work in the Assembly.

Alex Sloan

Alex Sloan presents Mornings on 666 ABC Canberra. She began her career in media in Tasmania, then from Sydney became a foreign reporter. Later she became a reporter/producer for Radio National, and came to Canberra in 1995 to host the Drive Program.

In her broadcasts, Alex has often highlighted issues related to breast cancer, and has often given Bosom Buddies ACT a voice. In 2011 she participated in the Bosom Buddies Hat Hat Hooray competition and was key note speaker at the Australia Breast Cancer Day dinner in October 2011.

John Runko

John Runko is CEO of the Independent Property Group. Through their Foundation, the Independent Property Group has donated generously to our community.

When in 2010 the Foundation gave a substantial donation to ACT Health to purchase equipment for breast MRI Services, Bosom Buddies ACT publically thanked them on behalf of all the women in the ACT region as it made a substantial contribution to more effective diagnosis and treatment. John has been appointed to the ACT Hospital Network Council that provides advice to ACT Health on the implementation of national health reforms.
